Persian-speaking dentists in North York
A directory of Iranian dentists who practise in North York and nearby Thornhill. Each listing shows where the dentist works and the type of care they focus on, so you can find a Farsi-speaking dentist close to home and explain a dental problem in your own language.
Filters describe the practice locations where each dentist works.
No dentists match those filters. Clear the search or a filter to see the full list.
Why a Farsi-speaking dentist makes a difference
A dental visit runs on detail. You need to describe where the pain sits and which teeth were treated before. Many people handle daily life in English without trouble and still find these conversations harder in a second language. Older parents and family members who arrived recently feel this most.
A dentist who speaks Persian can explain a treatment plan and its cost directly, without a relative in the room to translate. It also makes consent clearer, because you understand what you agree to before treatment starts.
Persian, Farsi or Iranian: one search, several names
Some people search for a Persian dentist in North York. Others type Farsi-speaking dentist, and many look for an Iranian dentist near Yonge and Finch. Farsi is the name of the language in Persian itself, and Persian is its usual English name. Iranian describes nationality or background. Most patients who use any of these terms want the same thing, a dentist who shares their language and understands where they come from.
Farsi is also close to Dari, spoken in Afghanistan. Dari speakers can usually follow a Farsi-speaking dentist without difficulty.
Iranian-trained dentists and Ontario licensing
Some Iranian dentists in Toronto trained in Iran before moving to Canada, and others studied here. Either way, no dentist can practise in Ontario without a licence from the RCDSO. Dentists who trained outside Canada and the United States must first pass the equivalency process run by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) or complete a degree program at a Canadian dental school.
You can look up any dentist on the RCDSO public register. It confirms the licence and shows whether the dentist holds a specialty certificate.
Specialist or general dentist
In Ontario, only a dentist registered as a specialist with the RCDSO may use a title such as orthodontist, endodontist, periodontist or oral surgeon. Most dentists on this list are general dentists who also provide treatments like implants or root canal therapy.
Where a listing says Orthodontist, that dentist is registered as a specialist. Where it shows a focus area, that is the work the dentist's practice says they concentrate on. It is not a specialty title.
Dental coverage for newcomers from Iran
OHIP does not pay for routine dental care for adults, so many newcomers arrive unsure what a visit will cost. These are the main ways to pay for treatment.
-
Private insurance
If your employer or your partner's employer offers a dental plan, most practices bill the insurer directly. Ask for a written estimate before any treatment beyond a checkup.
-
Canadian Dental Care Plan
CDCP helps residents with no access to dental insurance and an adjusted family net income under $90,000. You must have filed a Canadian tax return for the previous year. Our CDCP dentist guide lists North York practices that accept it.
-
IFHP for refugee claimants
The Interim Federal Health Program covers limited dental care for eligible refugee claimants and protected persons, mainly for pain and infection. Ask whether the practice is registered with IFHP before your visit.
-
Paying yourself
Without coverage, ask for the fee in writing first. Our ODA fee guide shows the suggested Ontario rate for common treatments, so you can check a quote against it.
Bringing your dental records from Iran
Before you leave, ask your dentist in Iran for copies of recent X-rays and a short treatment history. If you have already moved, a family member can collect them for you. Digital X-ray files sent by email are the easiest for a Toronto practice to use.
If the notes are written in Persian, a brief English summary of past root canals and implants helps your new dentist plan treatment. Bring a list of your medicines with their generic names, since brand names in Iran often differ from those sold in Canada.
Where these dentists practise
Most listings cluster along Yonge Street between Bedford Park and Steeles, the stretch many Iranian Torontonians call Tehranto. Others work along Finch Avenue West and Bathurst Street, as far north as Thornhill. Type your area or a nearby intersection into the search box above to see who practises closest to you.
How to request an appointment
- Choose a dentist and note the practice location that suits you best.
- Select Request an appointment and fill in the form. Add the dentist's name and say if you would like to be seen in Farsi.
- We send your request to that dentist's practice, and the practice contacts you to confirm a time.
- On the day, bring your insurance card or CDCP member number, along with any X-rays from previous dentists.
